You told us that you had concerns regarding access around the area, including road widths and congestion. You also wanted to further understand our ambitions to promote active travel in a way that makes sense for the area. The existing walking, cycling, bus and driving network in the area has shaped our design-led response.

Connecting to Crewe

Crewe’s cycle network is still developing, with National Cycle Route 451 running east to west through the town centre. There’s a strong network of existing footpaths at the edge of Crewe, including the Crewe and Nantwich Circular Walk, which runs along the Site’s northern boundary. The bus network and Crewe train station, offering strong rail connections across the UK, help tie these together.

The masterplan aims to:

• Extend the bus network to link Waldron’s Place to Crewe town centre
• Enhance existing footpaths across the Site
• Add new walking and cycling routes, strengthening ties between the Site and the rest of Crewe

Active Travel

• Existing footpaths would be retained and enhanced with new walking routes, making it easier to get around on foot
• New walking routes are proposed alongside Stoneley Road and Groby Road to improve pedestrian safety; Waldron’s Lane could become a safe, largely car-free route for walking and cycling
• Proposed enhancements to the Warmingham Road junction include wider pavements, a new cycle path, and a crossing connecting to the footpath network to the north

Vehicles

• No through traffic is proposed from Stoneley Road to Warmingham Road – creating a car-free local centre and village green
• Four new access points are proposed, with a new main street connecting Warmingham Road to Groby Road
• Existing homes on Waldron’s Lane and Stoneley Road would keep their private vehicle access, while measures are proposed to stop rat-running
• Streets near the school and local centre would be set back from the main road and designed to be safe places for children to play
• The speed limit on Groby Road is proposed to be reduced from 60mph to 30mph, improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists

Bus

• A new bus route is proposed, connecting residents to Crewe town centre, Haslington, and Leighton Hospital
• Every home would be within around 400m of a bus stop
• Talks are ongoing with Cheshire East Council on long-term funding

Waldron’s Place could provide up to 850 new homes, including 30% affordable housing, with a range of house types and tenures designed to foster a strong sense of community — from starter homes to family housing and accommodation suitable for downsizers.

The proposals include a new local centre, providing a range of facilities and services for residents and the wider community, which could include:

• Shops and a café
• A GP surgery or pharmacy
• A children’s nursery
• Apartments on upper floors
• Specialist accommodation for older residents

A funding plan for looking after the Country Park and shared spaces is being worked up, secured through a formal legal agreement with the council. We’ll share a clear update on how this will be managed and paid for as the proposals progress.
